The Up and Down Week.

THE UP and DOWN Week!

Sunday started off with a high temperature of -15C.  A perfect temperature for the dog sled race. We took the truck and dogs to a small village about 150 km north of us. My oldest female dog has not been interested in pulling   the sled lately and lets the younger dogs do all the work. We raced without her this time and went faster. The class was a 3 dog class and we got second with just 2 dogs. Our first win!
The eager start.
2nd place.

Monday warmed up to -10C and made the salt on the streets start to work. I came home with a dirty Quest. I spent more time that day cleaning than riding. Tuesday I had to do overtime at work so I drove the truck.

Wednesday I had to pick up a parcel at the post office. A box that left the Netherlands last Wednesday arrived this Wednesday. It was large and very light. "Da Hood" was in. And just in time too.

"Da Hood"

I was very impressed with Sinner Bikes. Their service was fast and the emails were promptly answered.
The Tour Cap was well finished and fit the Quest perfect. The next morning (Thursday) when I went to work, it got a good test. The wind came strongly from the north. The temperature dropped a lot. A frostbite warning was issued. That means your skin will freeze in less than 10 minutes. I was nice and warm in my Quest with the tour cap on.

Frostbite in 10 Minutes or less!

Friday morning temperature
Friday the cold temperatures were back. I took out the video camera and mounted it on the quest. I took a ride around my local area but the battery didn't last very long in the cold. The picture got very cloudy in a short time.
So here it is my first video. I hope it works. For my readers in the Netherlands you can see what snowbanks we have. It's hare for cars to see me when I enter the roads. Until next week Have Fun...

  1. Hi Kevin,

Congratiulations with your 2nd place in the race, well done! I'm certainly not jealous about the snow amount you've got there. Its enough with the 5 cm we've got last night!
The video shows that the roads are very bumpy because of the snow/ice layers, your neighbourhood looks nice though.

    Regards, Adri.

    1. Thanks Ardi,
I shot some more video from inside the race cap on Saturday so the battery did a little better. I shot it on a 10km ice path for skaters. That was on two rivers that come together in the middle of the city. I will post it on next weeks blog.
      Regards, Kevin

  2. Hi Kevin,

Congrats on your race. My dogs aren't all that interested in pulling me unless it's in the same direction of the squirrel they're chasing.

I think your Quest and my Strada must be pretty close siblings because Bluevelo was starting my build at the same time yours was shipped. I've enjoyed reading about your experiences. I'm in the Chicago area and have started my own blog at YellowMobile.net. Stop on by if you get bored. Cheers!

  3. Hi Stuart,
Welcome to the world of Velomobiles! I read though your blog and see your Strada arrived in the same month as mine. In a way we are both "Newbies". I have been riding recumbents for a few years so this seemed like the next step. It is nice to have a blog to follow that is in English. I have added you to my list of blogs that I follow. Most of my readers are in the Netherlands and other parts of Europe. I haven't viewed your videos yet but I will do in the next few days.

    1. Well thanks Kevin! I finally figured out how my blogroll works so I'm happy to inform you that you are my very first. It isn't as prominently placed as yours though - it's all the way at the bottom of the page so you'll have to scroll down. Can't wait to hear about your new hood! Looks fantastic!!

    2. Hi Stuart,
My blog is set-up so it lists on the right side the most newest blog to update and the time it was updated. You can link fro my blog page to anyone by clicking on the one listed. One there if it's in a different language you would have to copy the UL and past it into google translate to read it. Likewise some of my readers will link to yours from my page too. You can also add a link to your signature on BROL and that will bring more readers.
